Solar roof management

In this article, Bernd Nijen Twilhaar, solar project manager at Novar, explains everything he does for your solar roof: what does the maintenance of a solar roof look like? How often are checks performed, and what can we as Novar do for you? These aspects are important in the management phase. Safety, unburdening and maximum generation are central. As an owner, you don't have to worry about your solar roof, because Bernd and his team take care of it.

Safety first

At Novar, we want the process to be as pleasant and clear as possible for you as a property owner. We want to completely unburden you by going the extra mile. After the solar roof has been built, the roof enters the 'management' phase. Bernd explains what that phase looks like: 'During the construction phase, we want the management team to be involved in the process so that safety is considered from the very beginning. This can be in the form of a physical inspection or by us already visiting during construction and so we can think along from our point of view. This way we can ensure that the project runs in the best possible way, commercially and technically. During the construction phase, we identify and evaluate all possible risks that need to be resolved before the operational phase. So we are in close contact with the EPC and O&M parties. EPC, Engineering Procurement & Contracting, takes care of the construction and O&M takes care of the maintenance & monitoring.'

'At Novar, we want to unburden customers also in terms of solar roof safety. We do this by drawing up a customized plan in advance, with all the procedures and all the risks involved in a solar roof. Health and safety is our top priority. For example, if an emergency ever occurs, we make sure a plan is ready. The document with these risks is also shared with other parties for safety purposes. It is so important to identify the risks in advance and to deal with them from the very beginning. We want the solar roof to be as safe as possible. That's why we detect, mitigate and prevent. In this way, the property owners are completely relieved of any concerns about safety. '

All in one

'We conduct an inspection once a year on behalf of Novar at all energy projects. In addition, it often happens that there are questions about the solar roof from the immediate area. This is logical and we find it important to answer these questions. That's why we are the contact person: as a property owner, you don't have to do this yourself. Novar also takes the technical and financial tasks off your hands. A property owner is of course kept well informed about things that are going on with the solar roof, such as any reports.

Bernd continues, "We are doing very well in terms of operational availability/availability. The counter now stands at a percentage of 99.3% up-time. That's high! This means that almost all of our projects are doing non-stop what they should be doing: producing green energy!'
