Your sustainable roof closer

With the help of the SDE++ subsidy

Do you suffer from high energy prices, have doubts about the security of energy supply or want to reduce CO2 emissions? Then choose your own energy generation with, for example, a renewable energy system on your roof. This way you are in charge of your own energy and prepared for the future. And all this is possible with the help of the SDE++ subsidy. Wondering how? You can read it here.

What is the SDE++?

In order to make the energy supply more sustainable and save CO2, the Stimulation of Sustainable Energy Production and Climate Transition was created. The purpose of the subsidy is to stimulate projects that reduce CO2 emissions.

The SDE++ subsidy can only be applied for once a year. This year, the subsidy round opens from September. Because the grant is based on CO2 reduction, there are several techniques that stand a chance. Including self-generation with solar panels.

The SDE++ is an operating subsidy. That means you receive a subsidy as soon as your installation is in use. You receive subsidy for a period of 12 to 16 years, depending on your category.

You can only submit your application during an opening round. Such a round consists of several phases in which the application amounts increase. Are you too late? Then you have to wait until next year. Are you too early? Then there is a chance that you will receive a lower subsidy than you could have received.

How much subsidy can you get?

The full budget for the SDE++ 2023 is 8 billion. How much subsidy you can get for your project depends on the cost price differences between gray and green power. The difference between the market value of the energy supplied and the cost price of renewable energy is thus compensated. This is done up to a certain lower limit, also called the base amount.

This amount is reset every year. In practice, this means that you will receive more money for your sustainable generation one year than the next. You will receive your SDE subsidy every year as an advance payment of 80% on the expected cost price. Once the true cost price has been determined, this will be offset against the amount you have already received.

In addition, the government applies a cap on subsidy amounts. This maximum is based on the plant's full-load hours. Full-load hours are the number of hours during which energy is generated. For solar PV, the ceiling is 800 hours per year. Suppose you have a solar panel with an average power of 400 watts, you will receive 400 watts x 800 hours = 320kWh of subsidy per year.

Here you can see how the grant works.

What do you have to comply with?

You are eligible for the SDE subsidy if you:

  1. Being an organization;
  2. With wholesale connection;
  3. And make an application of 15 kWp or larger.

You make a request per address. So do you have several roofs to fill up? Then you can get a subsidy per address. The moment your total application at one or more addresses exceeds 1000 kWp, a feasibility study is required. And that consists of:

  1. An operating calculation
  2. A rationale for equity
  3. A financing plan
  4. And a timeline for commissioning

When you make the application, you don't have to have issued a building permit yet. However, the necessary permits must have been issued. In the case of a solar system on your roof, you don't need a permit. Is the property not yours? If so, written permission from the owner is still required.

The application itself

You apply via the eLoket of the Rijksdienst voor Ondernemend Nederland: my.rvo.nl/sde. In the case of a solar roof, your application must include at least:

  • A model declaration of the load-bearing capacity of the roof structure
  • A scale drawing of the solar installation

All in all, the grant application requires quite a bit of figuring out. The better the preparation, the greater the chance of getting a grant. The timing of application-the right stage within your category-is crucial: not too late and not too early for maximum results.

Therefore, it may be smart to let an outside party such as Novar handle the application. We have a special project team with a lot of experience and knowledge. For this, we can realize the highest possible subsidy and secure the SDE subsidy for your project.

So what?

Once you have the subsidy in your pocket, you still have two years until you have to issue the construction order. If your installation is larger than 1 MW, you also have to put it into operation within three years. Your project is 'completed' according to the government when the final capacity corresponds to the requested capacity and a Guarantee of Origin (GvO) is issued. Your proof that you are producing sustainable energy. And so you have your sustainable roof.

Novar remains flexible

Since the amount of the subsidy thus depends on developments in energy prices, it is important to respond accordingly. We expect negative power prices to become more frequent in the future. Developingstorage techniques are therefore essential. In this way, you can create flexibility that reduces the imbalance between supply and demand. In this way we can ensure that your energy project has and maintains a positive business case. Also in the future.
