Why this solar farm?
The Regional Energy Strategy Groningen aims to generate at least 5.7 TWh of renewable energy by 2030. When solar farm Bellingwolde - Westerwolde is fully realized, it will make a significant contribution to achieving this goal.
The location of the solar farm
The plan site lies between the Veendijk and the German border in Bellingwolde, near the neighborhood of De Lethe. During the process it emerged that an old border treaty from 1824 had to be taken into account. In order to proceed with the development of Zonnepark Bellingwolde, Landskreis Emsland must first give its approval.
How can residents participate?
The landowner Kor Werkman is a well-known local resident and is actively involved in the development. Novar and Kor Werkman strive to create a socially supported solar farm that benefits everyone in the area. Therefore, a sounding board group has been established and cooperation has been sought with the local energy cooperative De Lethe Stroomt.
What added value will the solar farm bring?
An environmental process was organized to design the solar farm together with the surrounding area. By means of a generous landscape incorporation, ecological added value will be created for the surrounding area. There will be lots of greenery around solar farm.
The planning area is approximately 57.5 hectares in size. Approximately 140,000 solar panels can be installed on it, with a generated capacity of more than 60 MWp. On an annual basis, this farm can provide over 16,000 households with renewable energy!
