In cooperation with the municipality of Pekela, Novar realized solar farm Aa-Stroom. The plot used had no function for this purpose.

Why this solar farm?
Before the arrival of solar farm Aa-Stroom, the plot had no function. With the arrival of the solar park there will be renewed activity in this area. In addition, the revitalization plan for the Aa-stroom business park revealed that this location lends itself well to a solar park.
Location of solar park
The solar park is located east of Oude Pekela in municipality of Pekela. The park is located next to business park Aa-stroom behind the sheds of the former strawboard factory Union.
Earth wall with flower seeds as landscaping
Novar created a landscaping plan for the solar park in cooperation with the provincial building authority. To fit in the park, an earth wall was installed that was sown with a mixture of flower seeds.
How can residents participate?
Novar offers local residents the opportunity to participate by investing in bonds. Participants receive interest on the money invested and the deposit is paid back over the 15-year term.
The solar park is nearly 3 acres in size and with 6,640 panels, the park has a capacity of over 2 MWp. This is enough to provide almost 700 households with electricity! The solar park thus contributes to the goals of the Groningen energy region to generate at least 5.7 TWh of electricity sustainably by 2030.
