Solar farm de Somp - Klarenbeek

Novar is currently developing solar farm de Somp, located in the municipality of Apeldoorn.

The planning area for solar farm De Somp is located near the A50, on the north side of De Somp and east and west of Van Spreekenslaan. De Somp is a service location along the highway, and has a gas station and roadside restaurant. The proposed solar farm has an area of over 18.1 acres. An east-west arrangement is being considered. This gives a better spread of power generation throughout the day and thus puts less strain on the grid. It also leaves more space for nature and landscaping. With this design, approximately 26.6 MWp can be generated on this area of more than 18 hectares. This is green power for over 8,660 households, making a huge contribution to the sustainability ambitions of the Municipality of Apeldoorn.

The environment and landscaping

Currently, the Municipality of Apeldoorn is in the process of initiating an integrated area process to arrive at an area vision. Solar farms will also have a place in this vision. The municipality is also including the plan for this solar farms in this. It is still unclear when the process for this will start; all expectations are that it will be after the summer of 2023.

A natural incorporation is envisioned for the west side of the site. In addition, Novar is eager to engage with stakeholders, such as local residents, on the further details of the solar farm. For the solar farm de Somp, 50% local ownership is envisaged. Nearby residents but also people in the wider area can participate by purchasing ZonneDelen. Furthermore, consideration is also being given to setting up an area fund. An important starting point for the incorporation of this solar farm is how to enhance nature.

The exact schedule for the project and the area process is not known at this time. If everything goes through, we expect that the solar farm can be completed in 2027 or 2028.
