About solar farm Domelaar II

Novar currently is developing solar farm Domelaar II. This is a floating solar farm located between the Groenlandsdijk and Slagendijk in Markelo. The solar farm will be located on a former sand mining site about 30 acres in size. According to initial design sketches, around 90,000 panels will generate renewable energy to provide green power to some 7,300 households.

The design is currently being coordinated with a landscape developer, local residents, municipality and other stakeholders.

Ecological incorporation

Much attention has been paid to ecological integration in the development of the design for the solar farm. Especially the banks of the pond are central to this. The current pond has only resting birds because it is very deep. The natural value is therefore precisely in the banks, which we want to strengthen so that more birds come to the lake. Think of the kingfisher who can make a vertical dive with steep banks. We want to create these bare sandy or loamy steep walls along the shoreline, or maintain them where they are already present. To realize this, we are in discussion with ecologists from Eelerwoude, among others, to provide the best possible interpretation for improving biodiversity around the solar farm.

Contribution

The construction of floating solar park Domelaar II will make a major contribution to the sustainability goals of Hof van Twente municipality and the province of Overijssel.
