Novar is currently working with Eneco and citizen cooperative Drechtse Energie to develop solar farm Kijfhoek in the municipality of Zwijndrecht. The project site is located between Kijfhoek, the Langeweg, the Munnikesteeg and the Waalbos. The location where the solar farm is planned currently consists of land for small-scale agricultural and greenhouse farming. By means of approximately 73,000 panels, sustainable energy will be generated to provide over 16,000 households with green power.
To contain climate change, the Netherlands made agreements in the Paris Climate Accord. Through the Regional Energy Strategy (RES) every municipality contributes to this. Also in the Drechtsteden the 7 municipalities, the 2 water boards and the province have jointly drawn up the Regional Energy Strategy (RES) 1.0. This describes how the municipalities will generate sustainable energy in order to be energy-neutral in 2050.
Together with a number of citizens and stakeholders, four elaboration areas (areas in which the large-scale generation of solar energy is possible) were subsequently determined in the Drechtsteden. Within the municipality of Zwijndrecht lies the development area Kijfhoek. Citizens' cooperative Drechtse Energie, Novar and Eneco have joined forces to investigate the possibilities for a solar farm together with the surrounding area.
Because the area connects to the railroad, a solar farm here fits in well with the landscape. One condition is that it must remain an open landscape and add value for ecology, biodiversity and recreation.
