Novar is developing a solar farm in the municipality of Rhenen. The intended location for the project is between Rhenen and Elst; north of Remmerden industrial park and surrounded by Larikshof cemetery and the Remmerdense Heide. We aim to submit a permit application to the municipality by the end of 2023.

About this solar farm
The municipality of Rhenen is located in the province of Utrecht and is part of the Regional Energy Strategy (RES) region of Foodvalley. This RES region has the objective of generating at least 0.75 TWh of sustainable energy by 2030. Solar farm Remmerden can make a substantial contribution to achieving this objective.
The process
In early 2021, Novar (then Solarfields) began exploring this project. This was done in cooperation with Energie Coöperatie Rhenen, which wanted to enable financial participation for Rhenen residents.
Since then, several meetings have been organized to inform local residents about the proposed plan, and to invite them and other stakeholders to contribute ideas about the design and landscaping of the solar field. Regular consultations have also taken place with the municipality of Rhenen and the province of Utrecht.
Another information evening will be organized soon, where we will inform about the plan, the follow-up process, and the possibilities for financial participation, among other things.
The municipality of Rhenen granted cooperation in principle for the project in 2022, and it is planned to submit the permit application for the solar farm in late 2023.
What concerns are there for this solar farm?
The plan area has archaeological and geological values and is located next to NNN area. Much attention will therefore be paid to these in the development of the solar farm. The possibility of cooperation with the adjacent Remmerden business park is also being considered.
How can residents participate?
Energie Coöperatie Rhenen unfortunately had to withdraw from the project in 2022. This does not mean that Rhenen residents can no longer participate.
In addition to process participation, residents will soon be able to participate financially in the solar farm. Exactly what that will look like is still being shaped. The municipality also considers this important and is thinking along with us about how this can be realized. Residents can also share input about the form of financial participation in the Remmerden solar farm.

The planned size of Solar farm Remmerden - Rhenen is 21 hectares, containing over 30,000 solar panels. Novar expects to realize the farm with an installed capacity of approximately 22 MWp. This will enable it to provide approximately 6,430 households with locally generated electricity annually!
