The municipality of Tytsjerksteradiel falls within the Regional Energy Strategy (RES) Friesland. According to the drafted policy of the RES region Friesland, it aims to produce at least 3 TWh of renewable energy on land by 2030. In addition, the municipality of Tytsjerksteradiel has had research conducted into the future energy demand of Burgum and Noordburgum. To make both villages more sustainable there is a task of 47 hectares. With solar farm Stoppelsoal - Burgum we make an important contribution to achieving these goals. We look forward to positive decision-making around this process.
The planned location is on the Koumarwei near Burgum and Noordburgum. In addition, the future solar farm borders the TenneT/Liander substation and the power plant in Burgum. Currently, the plan area is used as grassland.
Throughout the process, there is intensive cooperation with Energjz Groep Burgum. This is a local energy cooperative that represents the interests of the neighborhood. The energy cooperative intends to become 50% co-owner of the solar farm. As a result, income from the solar farm will be returned to the local environment. The energy cooperative is currently closely examining whether this step will actually be taken.
As much as 40% of the planning area of the solar farm is uncovered. In this way we are largely complying with the basic principle of the 'code of conduct on solar on land'. This code of conduct stipulates that at least 25% of the planning area of a solar farm must be uncovered.
In addition to the participation of local residents and the energy cooperative, Landschapsbeheer Fryslân, the Frisian Environmental Federation and Wetterskip Fryslân were also closely involved in several design sessions during the creation of the solar park design. Furthermore, Novar is paying a lot of attention in the design to the landscape integration, and there is a strong focus on strengthening the ecological value in and around the solar farm. Added value has also been applied in the recreational area, and a new bicycle path will be constructed through the solar farm. Finally, Novar is installing an educational point with, among other things, information about the solar farm, energy transition and ecological enhancement.
Solar farm Stoppelsoal - Burgum is about 35 hectares in size and further counts about 52,000 solar panels. This amount of solar panels accounts for a generated capacity of 32 MWp. Thus, more than 10,000 households can be provided with green energy every year!

At the end of May 2023, the permit was applied for with the municipality of Tytsjerksteradiel. This means that we are one step closer to the realization of the solar farm.
