Novar and the municipality of Waadhoeke have jointly realized solar farm De Kie in Franeker. Since March 2018, the farm has been supplying power to the grid.
Location of solar park
In Franeker, municipality of Waadhoeke, this solar park has been realized to the west of industrial area the Kie. The south side of the park borders the Leeuwaren-Harlingen railroad line. Space has been made to preserve the concrete path as a bicycle route. This path runs through the park.
How does this solar park contribute to the energy transition?
A total of 29,008 solar panels have been installed, generating about 10 MWp of electricity. This will supply electricity to over 3,000 households. In this way, this park makes a major contribution to the objectives of Waadhoeke municipality.

Residents have called attention to the concrete path that runs through the area as a bicycle route and emergency route for emergency services. This route has been retained and runs through the solar park. Furthermore, a graffiti painting of the flowchart can be seen on the grid station of this solar park.
ZonneDelers benefit from the sun
Novar has voted entrepreneurs and individuals to participate in this solar park. Solar Bonds have been developed so that anyone can invest in these solar panels. 179 ZonneDelers have invested in the solar park and benefit from the sun for 15 years.
The municipality of Waadhoeke, like the other municipalities, has agreed to the RES 1.0. This describes the municipal ambitions within Friesland to increase the sustainable generation of electricity on land to 3 Terawatt hours. The municipality of Waadhoeke aims to be energy neutral by 2040. Furthermore, the municipality is working on an integral approach in shaping the energy landscape to realize its ambitions.
This initiative by Novar fits perfectly with the municipality's plans. Both the Economic Action Plan and the structural vision included the desire for a solar park.
