About solar farm Wieldrechtse Zeedijk

Novar has been operating a solar park north of the Wieldrechtse Zeedijk since early 2023. The solar park is located between the Breda-Dordrecht railroad line and the A16 freeway. It involves a total area of 7.86 hectares enclosed by infrastructure. By means of 13,506 panels, sustainable energy will be generated to be able to provide over 2,900 households with green electricity.

In November 2022, Novar began construction of the solar farm, which was completed in early 2023. The next step was connecting to the grid, and the process of landscaping is ongoing.

Landscaping

Novar began discussions with a landscape architect and direct neighbors of the site to shape the landscaping. In addition, a walk-in evening took place, where other interested parties and stakeholders had their voices heard. Together with the municipality of Dordrecht, the results of these discussions were incorporated into the final plans for the farm.

A biodiversity survey (baseline) has been conducted and we are monitoring it closely. At the farm we are placing fruit trees, picnic tables and constructing biodiverse banks. Furthermore, Novar is working with NBV Dordrecht, a local beekeepers association, to place and maintain bee hives at the solar farm.

Furthermore, there is a desire from the Hollandse Delta Water Board to ensure that the water can drain out of the farm properly. Novar meets this by working with as much open paving and surfacing as possible in the farm.

Contribution

By creating a solar farm in between infrastructure, we are making optimal use of this piece of land. By paying attention to biodiversity on the farm, we not only help the energy transition, but also the environment.
