A solar roof will be installed on the building of Douna Machinery in Leeuwarden by the end of 2021. The company specializes in manufacturing, designing and inventing critical parts in the production process. According to the company itself, its work today includes solving industrial problems for customers, producing specialized drives and jobbing. On the 3,700-square-meter roof, space has been made for the installation of more than 1,200 solar panels.
On February 16, 2022, the installation was officially put into operation by Abel Reitsma, alderman for Economic Affairs of the Municipality of Leeuwarden. This was a nice conclusion to an intensive process of technical preparation that included modifications to the roof construction and coating for the roof. This is because very strict SCOPE 12 safety standards apply to this project. After inspection, the solar roof was certified and could officially be put into use.
Douna Machinery's solar roof generates a total of about 537,000 KWh of electricity annually. This provides over 150 households with green power for a year. In addition, the connection of the solar roof also reduces annual CO² emissions by 323 tons. With this installation, Douna Machinery is fully self-sufficient in its own power consumption and in the future has the option of supplying power to other companies on the Hemrik industrial estate in Leeuwarden.
