Location of solar roof
Construction of a solar roof on the premises of HUSA Logistics in Veendam began in 2022. The company provides total logistics services for both clients and transport companies. The project involves 30,299 solar panels over eight warehouses with a total area of about 90,000 m2. The cooperation with Novar fits into HUSA's broader sustainability vision. Years ago, the company already invested in its lighting, reducing its energy consumption by as much as 18 percent. In addition, the trucks use Euro 6 engines that enable them to meet stringent requirements in terms of CO2 emissions.
Realization
Construction of the solar roof was completed in late 2022 and has been operational since then. Initially, there seemed to be structural limitations that would make construction difficult. This was resolved by installing roof anchors and small roof reinforcements. The roof skin of the building has been replaced with silicon from CoolRoof, allowing optimal use of solar reflection and higher energy generation. A win-win situation!
A total capacity of 15,077 KWp has been installed on the roof of HUSA Logistics, which can provide green power to 3,900 households per year. Moreover, putting this solar roof into operation prevents annual CO2 emissions of nearly 7,000 tons. This makes HUSA's solar roof the largest solar roof in the Northern Netherlands!
