At the Mars business park in Zutphen, Novar has constructed solar park Fort de Pol. It was built on a former landfill.

The Municipality of Zutphen, together with the Cleantech Region, has created the Regional Energy Strategy. Together, the municipalities within this RES region have bid to produce 1.07 TWh of renewable energy by 2010. This will be done by wind turbines, solar panels on land and on rooftops.
There was no new urban development on these lots and after reviewing with other laws and regulations, it was decided that the solar farm fits within the established policy.

Location of solar farm
This solar farm has been constructed on an old landfill site. This former landfill lies at the most northwestern point of the municipality of Zutphen on the IJssel valley. On the west side lies the IJssel, on the north side the Twente canal and on the south side the industrial estate the Mars. The mountain rises more than 20 meters above the rest of the landscape, offering a beautiful view of the IJssel valley, the Veluwe and the Achterhoek.
How does this solar farm contribute to the energy transition?
The park of about 4.5 hectares gives place to about 14,000 solar panels. This will generate more than 5 MWp per year. This is equivalent to enough green power for 1,500 households.
The solar farm contributes to an energy-neutral 'Cleantech' industrial park. In this way, the municipality of Zutphen is helping to achieve the objectives of the energy regions within the Netherlands. In this way, it is doing its bit to achieve the Paris Climate Agreement.
Area DNA as starting point
On the north and west sides of Fort de Pol, a green zone has been realized as a landscape shield for the site. Furthermore, the area DNA has been taken as a starting point when applying planting structures in order to fit the project into its surroundings as well as possible.
