A green initiative in Noordhorn.

Projects Mokkenburg Solar Farm - Noordhorn

Novar is developing a solar farm near Noordhorn and Zuidhorn. The planned location of the solar park is west of the Mokkenburg industrial park, southwest of Noordhorn. This location is located between the railroad and the Van Starkenborgh Canal.

Design

The image below shows the landscape design for the solar farm. This design was created based on input from residents and from the municipality and the Province of Groningen.

Battery

In order to more intelligently supply the power grid with renewable electricity, Novar plans to construct a battery on the east side of the solar farm. We also call a battery an energy storage system (EOS)

The battery can reduce losses of generated electricity, compensate for deviations between predicted and actual electricity generation on a national level, or contribute locally to solve grid congestion. The more renewable energy that can be generated, stored and used, the less is CO2 emissions.

How does this solar farm contribute to the energy transition?

Groningen's Regional Energy Strategy (RES) aims to achieve at least the generation of 5.7 TWh of renewable electricity by 2030. To achieve this goal, Zonnepark Noordhorn is a good initiative. It is expected that 3,730 households can be supplied with electricity by this solar park. A total of 17,360 solar panels will be placed at this park for this purpose.

In use

We are working toward the completion of the design phase. The municipality has granted cooperation in principle. There have been kitchen table discussions, two residents' evenings have taken place, and we are having discussions with the surrounding area about the design and the details of financial participation.

We do this in preparation for the environmental permit.

Residents' evening and follow-up meetings

Working group session on financial participation Jan. 17, 2024

At the general residents' evening on October 16, 2023, a call was made for input on how financial participation should be implemented. The first working group session took place on January 17, 2024 in the Dörpstee.
